The Role of Citizens

________________________

Citizens are both individuals and a society. As individuals, citizens are obliged to obey laws. And as a society, co-operation and shared responsibility are essential for democracy to effectively work. Democracy as an ideology is thus an attempt at uniting the liberation of individuals with the idea of common good. In this respect, therefore, democracy is also the rule of the people for their common good entrusted in the hands of the elected mandated by the electorate.

Democracy as it relates to the protection of liberties has one challenge. And the problem is that in free societies a system of harmonizing the developments of each individual with the maintenance of social state in which the activities of all will contribute to the good of all others should be properly defined. The answers lie in self-governance in which individuals have been granted franchise to vote for individuals of their choice, thus curbing political apathy and indifference.
